From Prometheus Rising, required reading, Robert Anton Wilson is discussing the way the vanguard of humanity always seems to rotate eastward over time:

It all checks out. Later in the book he mentions mid-90s Japan as the center of consumer electronics. We all know who is taking the stage now, slightly eastward of Japan.

But what I'm into is circa ~2100, and what happens when India takes the spot. 500 foot-tall Cristo Redentor-style Hindu statues at the new center of the Earth. Rediscovering the vita contemplativa as tech advances to godlike levels, the living fusing with the machine.
